I've been reminiscing a lot on hlvrai's height in popularity & how big and active the fandom was at the time. It for sure had its up and down moments, but I'm really glad I can look back on it fondly and recognize it as a gateway into a really kind, caring, and funny community!! (This one!!!! :-])
I think one of my favorite things about the fandom was how creative everyone was with different interpretations of the characters!! It was always really fun to peek into the art tag and see how different yet recognizable they all were! :-]
In terms of the show itself, it's hard for me to pick a favorite bit so I don't really have a specific one, but I always get a good chuckle out of the bit where Dr Coomer and Bubby start punching the shit out of each other after the one npc scientist dies in act 2 (part 1) !

this prompted me to want to rewatch hlvrai, but off the top of my head my current favourite bits are the "nature, is, beautiful!" bit & the phone noises bubby does

Usually I'm terrible at picking favorites, but as somebody who has trouble with improv, I hold Benrey's Pre-Boss Fight Monologue in such unbelievably high esteem. That bit is sacred to me.
I'm sure the RTVS crew has no intention of making any sort of Direct:tm: sequel to HLVRAI, and I respect that and will always look forward to their future work no matter what it is. But because of that one scene, my pipe dream for the longest time has been a short Opposing Force spinoff, because that game already canonically features an actual nuclear device being planted in Black Mesa; all that's missing are 3D models for Jack Tretton and Reggie Fils-Aime in the style of Half-Life 1... |

The series is one of a heap of things I've been using as a sleep aid lately and I noticed a bit I think Wayne cut out of the final vids after waking back up at like 4am.
Holly is explaining that to use the barnacle gun you put your hand inside and squeeze to make it shoot, to Wayne's confusion, Gir just goes "Well...that's how I work.."

fanbase wise, my favorite part was the fanfics. my god some people had Ideas and they ran with them into the most beautiful sunsets youve ever seen. series wise, i think im gonna have to say it was the half life 2 benny takeover part in the acab stream. this is because i fell asleep during that stream and that woke me up. my mind couldnt properly make the transition to wakefulness because that bit was incomprehensible in a way identical to my dreams, and i think that changed me irreversibly

AND THE MUSIC WITH THE TRAIN when it's starting and stopping! and "look gordon we made it to the surface!" act 4 part 1 is pretty good too |

I love all the serious moments in Mike's behind the scenes, when Wayne i freaking out and everyone is just making fun of him or annoyed at him. Like when he was screaming "HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS," while Gir and Mike try to find him, cause he ran off like a toddler. Mike says "What is he doing?" and Gir says "He's making a fuckin Breaking Bad reference" while Wayne is practically on his knees, mid panic attack. Also everything about the helicopter heap is peak comedy. Everyone's reactions, Mike and Gir arguing, the mass exploding and deleting of helicopters, the helicopters fading out, and starting back up for some reason, Mike telling everyone to just run, Dr Coomer's extendo arms, the gigantic confusion surrounding it all, Scorpy's computer dying, it's all just perfection. And all because one map trigger was bugged.
